2000-2003: Developed and taught a course entitled The Physiology of Electrical Injury.
Earlier appointments started in 1977. Took part in: the design of a data acquisition system used in an ultrasound computerized tomography system; the design of a system to measure blood flow that would be relevant to detecting deep vein thrombosis; and dissolving blood clots with ultrasound. Also taught independent study courses in Bioengineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
1967-1968 in the Department of Electrical Engineering: Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. Work included design and construction of a system to measure weak light emitted from the ionosphere and teaching of a course on electrical measurement methods.

Similarly was a reviewer for Practical Reviews in Forensic Medicine and Sciences for about two years starting in late 1999.

Was a member of a 1999 Human Effects Advisory Panel that evaluated a ballistic TASERĀ®/Stun Gun-like device, conducting human effects assessment of a less-than-lethal weapon. In 2000 was a member of similar panel that evaluated the safety of a system that captured a moving car.

He has participated in Emergency Department audits, lectures, recruiting, the planning of a new facility, ambulance service evaluation and training, cardiac arrest and other protocol revisions for nursing, infectious disease control, and hospital safety activities. Expert 171 has done legal consulting and has written or co-authored books on electrical injury, resuscitation, terrorism, medical-legal issues, and other topics.
