Experience with security (premises liability, inadequate security claims) and police cases. Casework experience includes the following: study case documents, read depositions, analyze crime rates, evaluate security or police methods, examine and photograph crime scenes, render objective opinions, and testify at deposition or trial. Past cases focused on apartments/condos, motel, large and small retailers, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, convenience stores, movie theater, skating rink, events security, college, jail, and law enforcement agencies.
Security Consultant, 1980 - Present
Experience with large corporations, institutions, U.S. Small Business Administration, and publishers. Client problems range from shoplifting to shootings, with strategies focusing on protecting people and assets. Sites included manufacturing companies, retailers, and hospitals. Publishing/editorial consulting assignments involve a broad array of projects, such as evaluation of book proposals as consulting editor, pre-revision reviews of books in print, contributions to books, and writing as contributing editor to security periodicals.
1974 - Present, State of South CarolinaDirector, Security Training Institute & Resource Center (STIRC)
Created, planned, and implemented STIRC. Coordinate with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to offer mandated Level I, II, and III security courses for security trainers. Teach courses for the security industry, businesses, and the community. Serve as a security information and research source.
Coordinator, Church Security Project
Created, planned, secured grants, and implemented proactive crime prevention project to protect houses of worship. This project focuses on security surveys of religious facilities and donation of security equipment. The project won various awards. The US Department of Justice provides technical assistance.
