During the summer of 1998 Expert 1063 did an internship at Aluminum Company of America’s (ALCOA) legal department at their corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he worked on a project concerning an ALCOA investment in the Mexican automotive industry.

Areas of Practice

His areas of practice include contract law (real estate, international sales law, franchising, and distribution contracts); corporate law and foreign investments; civil and commercial litigation. His work also includes serving as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial, civil and banking disputes.

He is considered an expert in the field of international commercial law, with a special expertise on the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

He has ample experience on issues involving international procedural cooperation, including the international service of process, taking of evidence, and in the enforcement of foreign judgments in Mexico.

Other Activities

As an academic, he has taught Public International Law, International Sales Law, Foreign Investments and Commercial Arbitration at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

He is site administrator of a Computer Site (available upon request); a site dedicated to promoting information on the Sales Convention to Spanish speaking lawyers and judges.

He has also been visiting Professor at the University of Puerto Rico teaching a specialized course on International Sales Law.

He is often invited as speaker at international conferences to talk on topics ranging from International Contracts to International Dispute Resolution.

In 2005, he appeared as a speaker organized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), in Vienna, Austria, “Celebrating Success; 25 Years of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.” His collaboration appears in a special edition of the Journal of Law and Commerce of the University of Pittsburgh`s School of Law.

Also in 2005, he was a speaker at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law conference on the Sales Convention The UNCITRAL Digest as a Contract Drafting Tool, recently published in the Journal of Law and Commerce..

In 2006, he sat on a panel on international dispute resolution at the “Hemispheric Trade Conference” held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, organized by UNCITRAL, USAID, and the National Law Center..

Associations

Associate member of the San Diego County Bar Association, and of the US Mexico Bar Association.

Volunteer with the National Conflict Resolution Center of San Diego, California, where often collaborates as a trainer in mediation techniques.
