The department consists of 275 full-time employees with a budget in excess of $17 million and covers a county of over 140,000 people and 1,310 square miles. In addition, the county attracts a significant number of people for the various recreational opportunities.

Responsible for presentation of nine-month Law Enforcement Program utilizing forty part-time instructors. The program is Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certified for Basic Training. Students receive all the training required in a basic academy, as well as participate as a uniformed, armed, intern with a law enforcement agency.
