Total number of obesity operations performed approximates 2,000. The majority have been Roux-en-Y gastric bypasses, with approximately 300 vertical banded gastroplasties and numerous revisional bariatric surgeries, both those of other surgeons and of my own.
Since 2005 I have been engaged in the establishment of the first comprehensive Obesity Surgery Center in Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have personally trained and proctored two surgeons in the performance of laparoscopic gastric bypasses at Damansara Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. I have also trained these surgeons in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
I have also personally been involved in assisting Damansara Specialist Hospital and all ancillary staff in the requirements for establishing a first rate Center.
.
The Center is now open and is performing obesity surgery on local patients as well as patients from the USA.
In March 2006 I was invited by Ken Jones MD, Past President of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, to participate in the ASBS Investigative Committee, a subcommittee of the Ethical Advisory committee. Dr. Jones is Chair of the Professional Conduct Subcommittee. I have served as a member of other committees of the ASBS in past years, including the Surgical Access Committee and the Public and Professional Education Committees.
