Professional Profile

A retired professional with over forty years experience providing quality engineering and technical service support to the world-wide aerospace industry. Aerospace Company is one of the world’s largest providers of metal and composite epoxy-based bonding materials to the aerospace industry for the manufacture of commercial and military aircraft structures.

A significant part of my career was spent providing hands-on technical support services to aerospace companies in the U.S., Asia and Europe by introducing new metal and/or composite bonding materials, training workers in their use and leading product qualification efforts. I was also the designated person provided to companies faced with product or manufacturing issues that required an expert on the complete bonding cycle of metal and/or composite aerospace structures and, if required, on a failure analysis of the materials and/or the bonded structure.

Professional Accomplishments

•As a Research and Development Manager, directed the efforts of a staff of 4-6 chemists and 8-10 technicians to develop state-of-the-art epoxy-based aerospace paste and film adhesives for metal and/or composite bonding. This included resins for “wet” layup of multiple plies of Carbon, Kevlar or Glass fiber.
 
•Developed and implemented the Company’s initial technical support services into the European aerospace Industry. By providing on-site technical and engineering support, established long term relationships at the Airbus Consortium, and at Boeing’s European subcontractors. This required frequent visits to investigate product and/or manufacturing issues and to provide a failure analysis to determine the cause of discrepant material, process, test specimens or bonded structure.  

•Pioneered Company’s technical support activities into the Pacific Rim by providing introductory and long-term support at all of the major Boeing and Airbus subcontractors in the region. This also required frequent visits (and an eight-month posting in Singapore) to investigate product and/or manufacturing issues and to provide a failure analysis to determine the cause of discrepant material, process, test specimens or bonded structure. 

•Authored and presented four “Society for the Advancement of Materials and Processing Engineering” (SAMPE) papers; one of which (The Art of Reticulation and Applicable Adhesives) was nominated for the prestigious “Del Monte Award”.

• Recipient of one of NASA’s “Silver Snoopy” awards for “professionalism, dedication and outstanding support that greatly enhanced flight safety and mission success during the Space Shuttle Program”.
