Qualifications Summary

Expert 1505 insurance career spans 39 years, and features senior management and officer positions in claims, underwriting, policy and funding agreement drafting, program design, insurance broking, regulatory matters, insurance consulting, archival & coverage research, and agency plant management.  He is a recognized expert on casualty claims and underwriting issues and on numerous occasions he has testified at deposition and trial regarding both areas of insurance.  His policy design portfolio includes Contingent Consequential Loss Insurance, Perils of Transportation and Transit, and Remarketing Expense Indemnity Insurance.  He is a frequent speaker and author on insurance industry matters.  He is also a noted insurance educator, and has been a faculty member of several professional educational organizations, Northeastern University, and the National Insurance Training Group for Deloitte & Touche audit practitioners.

Work Experience

May 2006 – Present, Director of Audits for a Firm in Massachusetts.  Expert 1505 provides expert testimony and independent audit services to clients worldwide.  Expert 1505 has 12 years experience in testifying at depositions, trials and arbitrations.

Self-Employed Expert Witness & Consultant.  Expert 1505 left Deloitte Consulting November 2004 to establish his own practice.

Deloitte Consulting LLP, Hartford, Connecticut.  Expert 1505 joined the Firm in 1994 and progressed to Senior Manager and Practice Leader in the fields of Casualty & Latent Claims, Underwriting, and Market Conduct Consulting. In addition to serving as an expert witness and consultant on litigated matters, he provided guidance to the Firm and the Firm’s clients in all areas within his Practice Leadership responsibilities. His duties and responsibilities included: claim, underwriting, and market conduct audits; client advocacy and litigation support services; policy drafting; program design; case reserve studies; and, audit enhancement services.
Expert 1505 led the claim evaluation team on numerous engagements including major due diligence projects.  His areas of expertise included latent and emerging exposures (asbestos, environmental, implants, construction defects etc.), workers compensation, USL&H, personal lines, products liability, fidelity & surety bonding, fair claim practice issues, reinsurance, marine insurances, and medical & legal professional liability.  He also consulted with insurers and TPAs on product differentiation through claim expertise, and on performance incentive arrangements (gain share contracts) for claim administrators. He was a lead technical consultant on a number of diverse major engagements, such as denationalization of insurance in Uruguay. In addition to his domestic engagements.  Expert 1505 served clients in Canada, Europe, Mexico, and South America.

American International Companies (AIG).  Expert 1505 held numerous management and officer positions in claims, underwriting and agency/brokerage management areas during his 19-year affiliation with member companies of AIG.  From 1990 to 1994, in addition to his principal employment as Regional Manager for AIG Claim Services Inc., he was resident officer for AIG Specialty Agency of Massachusetts, Inc. He acted as executing and countersigning agent for all AIG admitted papers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and advised underwriting units on regulatory matters and policy manuscripting issues.  Expert 1505 was Production Manager for AIG’s Boston Regional Office and as such, conducted New England business on behalf of those AIG underwriting facilities not represented in the Regional Office.  He designed policies and collateral mechanisms for fronted and risk assumptive programs, performed sales and underwriting functions for major casualty accounts, and managed the agent & broker plant and licensing functions.  Additionally, he conducted compliance (e.g. quality, premium fraud, market conduct) audits of Managing General Agents having underwriting and/or claim authority.  His regulatory experience includes two years tenure as Branch Manager for AIG’s New Hampshire Insurance Group where he hosted market conduct audits for Massachusetts and Rhode Island and adroitly handled regulatory issues attendant to the carrier’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth.

Independent Wholesale & Retail Broker.  Expert 1505 was affiliated with regional insurance brokers from 1986 to 1988 specializing in high-risk liability, difficult surety, environmental and marine insurances.

Travelers Insurance Company.  Expert 1505 entered the insurance industry in 1967 as an adjuster with The Travelers Claim Department, specializing in medical professional claims. Following several years as a Claim Supervisor and liaison with major rubber companies, he transferred to the home office as Claim Training Supervisor.  He authored and edited a number of internal organs and publications including the Claim Quarterly, Standards of Professional Conduct (internal fraud), and Capitalizing on Claim Capability (claim expertise as a sales technique for commercial and personal lines).  He ultimately became a Liability Examiner with Travelers, and ruled on coverage matters and claims exceeding field authority levels.
