As a consultant and logistics solution provider, Expert No. 1964 has successfully assisted a broad range of clients, bringing leading-edge solutions to a variety of industries, including:

Completing a market analysis and drafted site and design recommendations for a new, Internet-based chemical Web site.

Renegotiating ocean freight rates for a major retail importer, reducing freight costs by over 10% and delivering cost avoidance in excess of $5MM.

Expert Witness experience includes:

Assistance and testimony in the successful class action defense of an accidental release of hazardous chemicals, Support included deposition analysis, witness preparation, railroad and chemical industry standard operating practices, 49CFR (HazMat) regulatory analysis, interpretation and application, and testimony.  Accepted by the Mississippi State Courts as an Expert in Chemical Distribution and Logistics.

Provided expert assistance to client opposing expropriation of property by a railroad for construction of rail spur from mainline track to bulk chemical terminal.

Expert assistance to Personal Injury litigation resulting from Hazardous Materials released from a tank car due to lining failure.  Provided opinion regarding 49CFR compliance, lining inspection and testing procedures, pre- and post-load testing, inter-change inspection and record keeping.

Expert assistance was provided in litigation resulting from the death of an employee who entered an ISO bulk container under nitrogen atmosphere.  Opined industry standards of care, 49CFR compliance, safety training issues, industry standards of practice, etc.

Assisted in the defense of a client who has been sued by a 3rd party for an injury suffered on client’s property.  Reviewed Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, analyzed and opined regarding plaintiff’s expert and provided insight regarding motor carrier operations.

Class action litigation resulting from release of a Hazardous Material from a rail tank car in a rail classification yard, Developed list of discovery items to help ascertain pre- and post-load testing and inspection, railroad handling, shipping / receiving / unloading procedures and other essential data.

Completed an Opportunities Assessment for a retail/mail order client, identifying over $14MM of transportation cost and related logistics savings opportunities.  Client has subsequently asked for assistance in implementing the recommendations.

Completed an Opportunities Assessment for a leading manufacturer of hand tools, resulting in cost reduction opportunities exceeding $22MM.  Team recommended outsourcing as an alternative.  Developed RFP, provider analysis, assisted in final selection and participated in the implementation of the 3rd party outsource.

Completed cost and operational analysis of private truck fleet transporting Hazardous Materials

Completed a Transportation Needs Assessment for the leading manufacturer of semi-conductor photo-masks.  Analysis revealed process failures, freight fraud opportunities, organization issues and the opportunity to reduce freight costs by 5-12%. Presently assisting in the implementation of our recommendations.

Provided transportation expertise to the premier reverse-logistics service provider, presently handling ~10,000 return units per day.  Developed road map for future transportation needs as business grows dramatically.

Olin Corporation

Implemented Olin’s Distribution safety program, bringing safety incidents to one of the lowest levels in the chemical industry.
Developed the Olin “Care Car”®, a unique tank car developed to enhance in-transit safety.
Managed $135MM of domestic and international transportation and distribution expenditures supported by an administrative budget of ~$2.5MM.  Annual cost reductions ~$5MM.
Equipment & facilities included 3,800 rail cars, 19 barges, 24 warehouses and 13 terminals
Successful start-up of 2 major distribution centers for Microelectronic materials
Developed and implemented Olin’s Responsible Care® process.
Developed and implemented new strategies for purchase/delivery of critical raw materials
Purchased and implemented 2 major software packages in support of freight payment and rail fleet management.  Represented transportation on the SAP Implementation Team.
