Thirty five years of engineering experience with over thirty years in software engineering.  

Software Engineering Consultant - 1970 to Present

Teaching engineering graduate course, "Engineering the Software Product" for UCLA, CS department.  Presented several short courses "Ada Project Management" for George Washington University (GWU), "Introduction to Software Architecture", "Introduction to Safety Critical Software Development" and "Competitive SW Engineering" for USC over the NTU satellite TV network, and "Software Process Management", "SW Engineering Overview for Developers", and "Requirements Management" for the Software Engineering Forum at San Diego State University. ISO 9000/TickIT trained in software quality auditing. Prepared project reviews for a large-scale distributed data base system and a software-intensive avionics system development with short and long term recommendations for meeting critical schedules and improving development efficiency. Responsible for the software engineering portion of a government-wide handbook supplying software engineering design guidelines and development practices for safety-critical systems. Prepared a long-term marketing and system development plan for automation of the utility metering market. As an expert witness, developed a successful defense for a medical malpractice suit which hinged on the doctor's answering service access to his home telephone during an emergency situation. Have extensive experience in legal issues as long-time entrepreneur and member of several boards-of-directors Developed the systems requirements specifications for the Runway Visual Ranging system for the FAA National Airspace System. Specialized in the Remote Maintenance Monitoring System (RMMS) portion which provided fully automatic, remote maintenance. RMMS is characterized by a multi-level, variable path, secure, nationwide, dedicated communication network. Designed and supported installation of the computing and communication facilities for a civil engineering service bureau.

System Development. Developed real-time pattern recognition software in Ada on Sun Sparc workstations targeted for an 8 CPU platform of TI C40 DSP's. Performance-optimized the inter- and intra-processor (68020 VME) real-time communications processing on a high performance graphics display system in DEC and Verdix Ada. Using the Rational Ada development environment, developed the data base interfaces, device emulation and overall control executives for a multi-process system. Designed the airborne control programs for approximately 30 integrated communication devices. The flight program was implemented in Ada, hosted on a VAX targeted for a four-CPU system. Developed the top level communication and control executive for a multi-processor SAR radar imagery exploitation system on a clustered Vax 8600 networked to eight Sun workstations with Gould raster displays. Developed a load management data acquisition system which provided color graphic displays of electricity usage and instantaneous demand for a citywide municipal power generating control center. Co-inventor on three patents for different generations of systems which use residential telephone service to read utility meters from central monitoring locations. Developed the airborne data link software for the F14 fire control system. Also installed major updates to the airborne executive and graphics display portions of the F14 system. Developed control and display software for the training simulator version of the F14 fire control system.

Miscellaneous.  Registered professional electrical engineer (PE) in California, ICCP Certificate in Data Processing (CDP), Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society, Member of National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Independent Computer Consultants Association and ACM SIGAda & SIGSOFT Member of Steering Committee of Los Angeles Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN), IEEE LA Council Staff Committee, Executive Committee of UCLA Engineering Dean's Council, have authored and delivered many papers, articles and talks on software engineering/business issues, Ada and computer safety.
