Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering expert witness is someone with a specialized educational background and work experience who can provide opinions on matters pertaining to aerospace mass transport systems, aircraft designs, astronautical systems and research. Aerospace engineering experts are sought when casualties occur from the failure of an aircraft system or component, or in cases involving contracts between parties related to such technology. They may also be called upon to serve as witnesses in criminal proceedings related to alleged negligence or misconduct on the part of corporations engaged in the manufacturing, design and operation of aircraft.

The responsibilities typically performed by an aerospace engineering expert witness include analyzing materials such as technical drawings, data-management control systems and mechanical components for any underlying flaws that went undetected prior to launch; examine electronic instruments involved in flight munitions control; assess the impact of potential weather conditions based on atmospheric charts; evaluate sensor alignments used for navigation purposes; assess flight-recorder data from past disputed flights for performance irregularities; investigate fraud charges that involve computer software programs designed for assistance with pilots’ navigation techniques or entire airplane operations management.

When an aerospace engineer is testifying as an expert witness during litigation procedures they can discuss his findings via deposition testimony, review transcripts from relevant experts who specialize in a particular topic and present their opinion at court via oral testimony. Furthermore they can consult legal groups affected by disputes over technology prior to a case being heard before a jury so qualified attorneys may better understand both sides of the issue before attempting representation during court proceedings.
