EPA Genetics Experts

EPA gentics expert witnesses are individuals who specialize in the science and technology of genetics. They typically have advanced degrees in biology, chemistry, genetics, or related fields. The EPA requires these experts to review evidentiary documents and testimony relevant to the environmental impact of products. Their expertise is used to assess the potential risks associated with genetic modifications or alterations made by a manufacturing process or product use, evaluate gene-altered organisms (GEOs), advise on hazardous substances or pollution control plans, and determine whether a product poses an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment.

These experts typically must be able to interpret scientific findings pertaining to mutagenesis, radiation exposure effects on animal gene pools and other research results relating to biotechnology safety concerns. EPA gentics expert witnesses may also be consulted in lawsuits when novel genomics technologies come into question regarding health related controversies or risks involved with certain agricultural products as well as intellectual property rights disputes regarding patented biotechnology advances derived from biological materials that could affect quality standards as it relates safety implications for consumer use.
