A Nuclear Engineer expert witness is a highly specialized technical specialist who provides evidence in court about matters related to nuclear engineering and its associated technologies. The expert witness is often called upon to provide testimony in cases concerning accident investigations, environmental safety, radiation protection, health and safety issues, design evaluations or failed structures caused by nuclear processes or materials. There can be two types of Nuclear Engineering experts witness which are consulting and testifying witnesses.


Consulting witnesses are nuclear engineers with special knowledge and insight that can assist attorneys in cases that involve their applicable research fields; such as plant design & operations principles, reactor systems controls, radiation monitoring systems & their operation and instrumentation & control systems etc., they may give opinions as to the reliability of the outcome of scientific studies or engineering inspections which could directly affect the case.


Testifying witnesses present either direct evidence in court or provide written testimony based on documents provided by attorneys for use as evidence in a lawsuit or arbitration hearing. These professionals must have extensive background knowledge within their field for courts to consider them professional competent enough to speak on behalf of complex scientific subjects being debated across an open forum like a courtroom setting while providing accurate information within their areas of expertise which include mathematics, chemistry & physics related sciences among many other topics where these principles are applied at a highly mathematical level delivered with credible expertise.
