Demonstrated effective talent in managing large consulting engagements.  His policy design portfolio includes Contingent Consequential Loss Insurance, Perils of Transportation and Transit, Municipal Property Stabilized Rate Coverage, and Remarketing Expense Indemnity Insurance.  Michael is a frequent speaker and author on insurance industry matters. Thoroughly experienced at evaluation of GL AL & workers compensation claims (performs claim & underwriting audits). He is also a noted insurance educator, and has been a faculty member of several professional educational organizations, Northeastern University, and the National Insurance Training Group for Deloitte & Touche audit practitioners. Thoroughly experienced in training and education for the industry. 


11/09 to present: Self-Employed Insurance & Litigation Consultant: Coverage, bad faith, duties of agents and brokers, premium calculation etc.

05/97 to 05/07: Deloitte Consulting LLP, Hartford, Connecticut.  Practice Leader, Claims and Underwriting.  Expert progressed to Senior Manager and Practice Leader, Claims & Underwriting.  He designed and marketed specialized approaches to client advocacy, litigation support, and audit enhancement services for Deloitte’s attest clients.  Served as an Expert Witness nine times.

Expert led the insurance consulting team on many engagements including major due diligence projects, and he played a key role in both engagement specific and general insurance training for Deloitte & Touche professionals.  His areas of expertise include: Claims & Underwriting bad faith, GL & Umbrella policies, latent and emerging exposures (asbestos, environmental, implants, construction defects, etc.), USL&H, workers compensation & mods, products liability, surety, fair claim practice issues, reinsurance, property and marine insurances, and, medical & legal professional liability, misc. professional (claim adjusters, land surveyors, realtors etc. ). He was lead technical consultant on a number of diverse major engagements, such as denationalization of insurance in Uruguay.  In addition to his domestic engagements, Michael served clients in Canada, Europe, Mexico, and South America.  Expert played a major role in internal and external (for fee) education and training, service proposals, and sales presentations.  Successfully managed projects in excess of three million dollars. Developed the firms Latent Claims Manual and training programs for audit and actuarial staff.

Audited attest Clients latent claims operations including the Hartford, Allstate, CNA, Reliance, Geico, and American Reinsurance in support of actuarial practice. In non-attest engagements, audited the latent claims units of Travelers special liability group, Gerling America, Axa and others.

9/84 to 05/97: Regional Manager for AIG Claim Services Inc. Various Offices.   Directed major litigation and complex cases. Supervised the work of 4 GL-AL supervisors, and all claim activities within office autonomy of $60,000.   
Expert first began employment with AIG CLAIMS at Albany as casualty claim supervisor for New York in 1975.  He transferred to Milwaukee as Claim Manager for Wisconsin and Iowa in January 1977, and  in 1984 was promoted to New England Regional Claim Manager at Cambridge, MA.  Personally handled all product & professional liability claims during this tenure.  Personally supervised the coverage decisions on all claims. 

07/77 to 09/84: American International Companies (AIG), Boston, Massachusetts, Production Manager.    Expert held numerous management and officer positions in claims, underwriting and agency/brokerage management areas during his 19-year affiliation with member companies of AIG.  As production manager managed the broker relationships and led the marketing effort for all AIG companies.  Negotiated arbitration arrangements with major clients, and performed underwriting functions for those profit centers not represented in the Boston Regional Office.  Resident officer, AIG Insurance Agency of Massachusetts.

08/75 to 07/77 Underwriting Manager, AIG MarketPac Programs, Cambridge MA.  All lines underwriting for commercial lines. 

02/67 to 08/75 Travelers Insurance Company, Hartford Connecticut.  Expert entered the insurance industry in 1967 as a multi-line adjuster with The Travelers Claim Department at Akron, Ohio. Following several years as a Claim Supervisor and liaison with major rubber companies, Michael transferred to the home office as Claim Training Supervisor.  He authored and edited a number of internal organs and publications including the Claim Quarterly, Standards of Professional Conduct (internal fraud), and Capitalizing on Claim Capability (claim expertise as a sales technique for commercial and personal lines).  He ultimately became a Liability Examiner and ruled on coverage matters and claims exceeding field authority levels.
