Employed by Tillinghast, a Towers Perrin Company, from 1982 through 1990, in its Hartford, CT office, as a consulting actuary.  Clients served were primarily life and health insurance companies and related organizations.  Client responsibilities included a variety of actuarial functions, primarily related to individual and group life, health, disability and dental insurance, including pricing, product development, valuation of liabilities, valuation of companies and books of business, strategic analysis, actuarial analysis of liabilities of continuing care retirement communities, and assistance to insurance departments.

Employed as a consulting actuary in independent practice from 1990 through present.  Serving a wide range of clients in the individual and group life and health insurance industry.  Client responsibilities include pricing and product development, advice on management and underwriting of group life, health, disability and dental coverage, competitive analysis, assistance to insurance departments, valuation of liabilities, expert testimony, and arbitration.

Notable assignments include: Assisting a company with selling a subsidiary that sold group life and long-term disability insurance.  This involved review of pricing, product design, valuation of liabilities, administration, underwriting, and claims administration, and negotiation with prospective and actual buyers’ representatives.

Developing underwriting rules and procedures, designing a structured claims study and developing a computer-pricing model for a company writing group and individual health products throughout the Caribbean.

Developing underwriting procedures and an underwriting manual for a major Blue Cross plan.
Performing an actuarial review of pricing and underwriting for a company specializing in student health insurance programs.

Developing actuarial analysis methods and systems for a major HMO.

Serving as appointed actuary for a dental benefits insurance company.

Assisting a company with developing the successful proposal for underwriting a major government agency dental insurance program.

Conducting a review of the special risk reinsurance block for a major reinsurer.

Assisting state insurance departments in regular financial examinations of domestic life insurance companies.

Assisting a state insurance Commissioner in the review of a proposed HMO merger.

Review of methodology, assumptions and application for reserves held by a major writer of group life and disability products.
