Led senior management group in developing 2003-2004 strategic plans to enhance the company’s position as the market’s dominant source of news and information.   Improved internal communication by chartering active

Served as the CEO of a 63,000-daily, 76,000-Sunday circulation Gannett (NYSE: GCI) newspaper with 280 employees and revenues of $40,000,000.  Held full accountability for the financial performance and total operation of the paper.  Recruited a new management team; developed and implemented news, marketing, and advertising strategies.  Worked closely with the editor on news content issues.  Worked with advertising and market development directors on pricing, marketing, and Internet strategies.
Led the newspaper to the most successful year in its history, realizing income of $20,000,000 on sales of $40,000,000.  The paper’s profit margin was the best of the parent company’s 87 properties.
Reduced workers’ compensation costs by 50% through increased communication and improved safety awareness programs.
Served as the chairman of a consolidation committee that succeeded in saving the company $300,000 annually through the consolidation of finance, information technology, and human resource functions.
Received a nomination for the President’s Ring for Excellence from the Senior Group President of the newspaper’s parent company.

Developed the newspaper’s coverage of personal finance issues.  Wrote and broadcast daily business report for CKEY Radio, Toronto, as part of efforts to brand Financial Post coverage.   THE OBSERVER – DISPATCH, Utica, New York, Reporter/Copy Editor, 1969 – 1974. Wrote copy and headlines and served as city government reporter.
