Practice

Private practice of ophthalmology from 1979 until December, 1997.  Surgical cases still performed into 1999.  Practice sold and doing teaching, peer review, consulting, and volunteer charity work since January, 1998 until present.  Moved to Arizona in May, 2003.

Legal Testimony

Expert 447 will review medical records for insurance companies and attorneys.  For insurance companies, this is normally to render opinions as to the appropriateness of procedures, billings, and coding for charges they are evaluating.  For attorneys, he will review medical records for both plaintiff and defendant cases in the specialty of ophthalmology only.  Expert 447 has reviewed attorney cases from the following states:  Kansas, Texas, California, Illinois, Virginia, Colorado, and Missouri.  He has given expert testimony at trials in Kansas, Missouri, and in Virginia as well as depositions in several of these states.  This work is performed very infrequently and only because it is of interest to him, but it is not something he pursues actively, and it is a minimal part of my annual income.  Expert 447 reviewed about a dozen malpractice related cases since late 1997, and probably 2/3 were plaintiff cases, and 1/3 were defense cases.  Two of these resulted in depositions or trials.
