WORK EXPERIENCE

Residency

Residency at Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 3701 Loop Rd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 (July 2006 – June 2007). Hospital based optometry. Utilizing topical and systemic diagnostic and therapeutic agent in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular disease. Four-month rotation with retina/vitreous surgeons. Daily examinations of bedridden patients from the VA nursing homes. Consultation with various other health professionals including ophthalmologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and internal medicine physicians. Supervision of fourth-year optometry students.

Corporal Michael J Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 3900 Woodland Ave, Philadelphia PA 19104 (May 2015 – present)
As section chief, responsible for the administrative processes of running the medical center clinic as well as three Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Coordinate transfer of care of patients between disciplines, especially with ophthalmology. Confer and assist with consultations and provide secondary opinions with colleagues. Provide primary and secondary eye care. Consultation with tele-eye services and certified reader. Consultation with other health professionals including ophthalmologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and internal medicine physicians. Active disease management including, but not limited to, glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension and other systemic diseases that have ocular manifestations.

Chief of Optometry:
United States Air Force Reserve, 512th Medical Group, Dover Air Force Base, Horsham, Pennsylvania (May 2019 – present). Provide and maintain care for over 1200 reserve military personnel assigned to Dover Air Force Base. Officer in command of seven members, one optometrist and six technicians. Coordinate care with civilian providers for those members that have ocular health issues. As Chief of Optometry; provide guidance and education to assigned optometrists and technicians. Administratively ensure that all regulations are adhered to and that pilots have optimal ocular health to perform their duties.

Chief of Optometry:
Pennsylvania Air National Guard, 111th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Horsham Air Guard Base, Horsham, Pennsylvania (May 2016 – May 2019). Provide and maintain care for over 1000 reserve military personnel assigned to Horsham Air Base. Coordinate care with civilian providers for those members that have ocular health issues. As Chief of Optometry; provide guidance and education to technicians and administratively ensure that all regulations are adhered to.

Alabama Air National Guard, 187th Medical Group, Dannely Field, Montgomery Municipal Airport, Montgomery Alabama. (September 2012 – May 2016). Provide and maintain care for over 1000 reserve military personnel assigned to Dannelly Field and Maxwell AFB. Coordinate care with civilian providers for those members that have ocular health issues. As Chief of Optometry; provide guidance and education to technicians and administratively ensure that all regulations are adhered to.

(August 2007 – May 2015). Provide primary and secondary eye care. Provide low vision services in my own dedicated low vision clinic. As Chief of Optometry; provide guidance and education to technicians and administratively ensure that all regulations are adhered to. Developed programs to coincide with Air Force regulations as none were in place upon my arrival.
