Project title:  Intrinsic fluorescence spectroscopy of coating silk and collagen on silicon wafers to understand cell responses for bone tissue engineering
Characterized intrinsic fluorescence spectroscopy of silk and collagen using fluorescence spectrophotometer.
Developed optimal condition for a biomaterial, silk films using a spin coater.
Studied surface structures of collagen films using atomic force microscopy, light microscopy and ellipsometer.
Investigated bone marrow stem cells on silk films by dip coating for bone tissue engineering.
Experience in cell culture on silk films and silk scaffold, as well as cell microscopy (phase contrast and fluorescence microscopy).

Thesis title: Gradient Heterogeneous Surfaces
Designed and developed a biocompatible surface having nanometer to micrometer lateral length scale using block copolymers and homopolymers to study cell adhesion, cell migration and wettability. 
Characterization of polymer thin films using ellipsometer, atomic force microscopy, light microscopy, X-ray scattering to characterize coating properties.
Developed conditions to generate topographic surfaces for biomaterials using reactive ion etching and photolithography for 3D cell migration study.  Collaboration with Yu-Li Wang at University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Extensive experience in surface characterizations using XPS, ellipsometer, AFM, light microscopy, contact angle and SEM for coating adhesion technology.
