Executive Secretary of the American Canoe Association, the Olympic affiliate in the United States for national and international canoe and kayak racing, 1976 to 1978.
Has researched, written, and edited numerous articles on river running, appearing in CURRENTS magazine, 1978 to 1995, and other publications.
Has gathered and analyzed river accident reports from around the United States and the world, and written numerous articles about river accidents.
Has testified about river issues at various hearings of government agencies and legislative committees regarding river safety, river conservation, and public rights on rivers.

River Business Experience:
and guided kayaking and rafting trips on the Bio-Bio River in Chile, one of the world’s most challenging major whitewater river trips, and on other rivers in Chile and Argentina, for nine seasons, 1986 to 1995. Hired and supervised other guides.
Instructed kayaking and rafting in Colorado, Utah, and California for twelve seasons, 1974 to 1986. Hired and supervised other instructors.
Supervised the rental of canoes, kayaks and rafts to the public for four seasons, 1979 to 1983.
River Running Experience:
Has run most of the major recreational rivers in the United States, and various rivers in other countries, using rafts, kayaks, canoes, and dories, 1966 to present.
Has raced in numerous state and regional river races, and in the 1974 U.S. National Whitewater Championships.

Learned river running from world champion Roger Paris during seven seasons in the 1970s, from William McGinnis, author of Whitewater Rafting, from Greg Moore, author of Idaho Whitewater, and from other nationally recognized experts.
Former students include U.S. national champion John Fishburn, Olympic champion Chris Spelius, national women’s champion Nancy Wiley, and other river running experts.
